In the course of the meeting, the Parties discussed current situation in Ukraine, attaching special attention to the developments in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, the Government has a clear programme on overcoming crisis in Ukraine.

“We have renewed cooperation with the IMF and conduct active negotiations with other international institutions,” he said, stressing that aggression of the Russian Federation in Crimea has become a problem on the way to stabilizing situation in Ukraine.

Thereat, the Chairman of the Parliament believes that international community “will not leave Ukraine alone with the aggressor, in line with the Budapest Memorandum,” under which the USA and Britain are the guarantors of our territorial integrity and sovereignty.

In his turn, Thorbjorn Jagland expressed full support to new authority in Ukraine on behalf of the Council of Europe. “We see that Ukraine moves in the direction to developing a truly democratic society and we welcome the reforms that are being introduced by your Government,” he noted.

“We are here to express our clear standing: we support Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” noted Thorbjorn Jagland, adding that the Council of Europe is ready to send its observers to Crimea as soon as possible.

Apart from this, Federal Minister for Europe Integration and Foreign Affairs of the Austrian Republic Sebastian Kurz reminded that the Austrian government was one of the first to impose financial sanctions on the high-ranking officials that were privy to bloodshed in Kyiv. “Austria will work on faster return of these funds to Ukraine,” he said.
